  CG ART

As with many other CG artists who work other jobs, creating artwork is a real treat. Not only is it an educational process, but a relaxing one. Refreshing the mind, and journeying to other worlds is a task that is hugely recommended. Here are some of my favourite pieces I have created over the past few years (when time permits). I have been published by Ballistic Publishing, Erotic Signature and 3D World Magazine. You can view a more extensive portfolio at CG Society.

Reality 1.0 Test_WIP
A clean render on Asher (top left), postwork was minimal and no overpainting. I used a photo reference for this image mainly because I wanted the morphing of Asher to be as close to a real body shape of a woman. V4 can often act as a good starting point but often falls flat when it comes to real shapes. A lot of time was spent playing with Dynamic Clothing Control - it's interesting how many ways you can drape a piece of clothing. The possibilities are endless.

Have spent the last few weeks exploring Reality 1.0 and Lux Render. I love the fact that it is an unbiased renderer, but the time it takes to render is somewhat laborious. Reality 1.0 Test_WIP (top right) took 43 hours to render and is only half the size of my normal output. Size rendered 1272 x 1798 - 2128s/px. I love the shaders but its hard to tell what you might get until late in the render. The preview function is a good guide, but we need something more substantial - a larger size preview perhaps? Would be good to be able to do spot renders.

This Empty Shell
Samara (top left) was second in the series of simple portraits. This is very reminscent of an old Boris Vallejo painting, well, the mood anyway. Quiet sexuality. It's the first time I've used a 3D application with a 2D head screwed on. Had to review the pose many times before settling on this one. This was published in The World's Greatest Erotic Art of Today Volume II by Erotic Signature. This Empty Shell (top right) Needed a lot of patience on this one! Broke it down into 3 separate renders as the alphas in the leaves and grass just crashed the application endlessly! Finally took around 36 hours to render.

Untitled: Reality Test 2
Jack in the Green (bottom left) created for the annual Jack in the Green Festival in Hastings (April 30th - May 3rd). Dance of the Mantodea (bottom right) uses my Caleb texture map, but worked on some mats for Human Surface Shader that would respond to DAZ Studio's default lights as well as something a little more extensive. Here I have used Dreamlight's Light Dome Pro 2, together with some spotlights and point lights of my own. Also used was DAZ Studio's new Uber Volume light attachments to add some ambience.
